The “interesting proposition…” link in the last corner of the footer, almost hidden away from view, gets the most clicks in the whole site. When I found out about this I decided to include it in the main navigation menu. Finally, I had to ask myself, why? Surprisingly enough, it has much to do with the way people surf the internet these days. You see, a large percentage of people view sites using their cell phones which means that small print is visible in the small screen. But wait! That just solves one part of the mystery which is why the link can be so visible but the real mystery is…why do people click on it?
What I found is that the popularity of the link can be summarized in one word: OPPORTUNITY. That’s right! People all over the world are looking for OPPORTUNITY every day. Those with deep pockets look to invest millions to get a piece of the action. If you have ever seen the show “Shark Tank” you know what I am talking about. However, those of us not so fortunate want to get into the game but money and time keep us from ever achieving success. Well…let’s be clear from the beginning. The downside of OPPORTUNITY is that it receives so much attention that marketers tend to take advantage of the situation.
